The term "cut" means that you wrote a song that someone else recorded. If you are a Figure Ten writer, we will issue what is called a "mechanical license" to the artist who has asked to record your song. They fill it out, send it back, and we can now keep track of how many copies of your song they sell and write you a FAT CHECK!

What do it do?

The mechanical license gives the recipient the right to record their own version of, distribute, promote and sell your song as a single or part of their album/EP.

Do they own the song when they record it?

No way! We would never just give away your creation. They only own their version (recording) of your song! If they wrote on it, they own their fair share (percentage according to how many writers wrote the song.)
